different people have different career outlooks. some people want to become civil servants; some people hope to start their own business; some people dream of being freelancers, and so on.

however, my ideal job is teaching. firstly, i’m told that teachers have a high income. with the high income, i can open a training school to help the children in poor families with their education. secondly, teachers always have summer and winter holidays, thus i will have more free time to relax myself. more importantly, teachers are angels to students, who can pass on the knowledge to students as well as help them develop their hobbies and interests. i can’t imagine how happy i will feel when i see my students become elites.

in order to be a qualified teacher, i should read more books to acquire more knowledge, and train my patience and improve my communication and handwriting abilities.

Good morning.

You may wonder if I believe in afterlife. My answer is: I know nothing about my previous life, so I dare not make improper comments on afterlife. But I do hope there's afterlife! Because our present life is so short that so many things slip away before our proper understanding. I have so many dreams, so many wishes, so many ambitions, as well as so many regrets and concerns. If there were no afterlife, all of them will remain unrealized!

I'm not contented with the present commonplace life, I'm very much attached to the affections that should have been mine but have been washed away by the hurrying time, and I yearn for the perfection and maturity if I could start all over again. So believe it or not, I'd rather there were afterlife.

good morning.

ladies and gentlemen. today i want to tell you a story about one of my friends, a lovely and smart girl who is always ready to help others. being our grade leader, she is good at both work and study. in many people's opinion, she is excellent and perfect. but one day she told me she was gloomy and insecure. people around her considered her outstanding and flawless, thinking she could handle everything. but the more she thought about herself, the more disappointed she became. she found that she was far from perfection. last week, she didn't do well in her french quiz, and the day before yesterday, she was late for a conference. she felt depressed and frustrated, because she failed to be a perfect girl without any mistakes.

i was surprised to hear that for i thought she had every reason to be confident. however, the expectation of perfection has become a burden to her. i told her no one could be perfect and i suggested she find her own position.

in fact, people are so eager to be perfect that they demand too much of themselves. they want to be special and unique, and they want to have no defects or weaknesses. however, we can never avoid mistakes and errors. it's impossible for us to be a superman or a superwoman. no matter how successful we are, there are always some flaws. if we hold that everything should be perfect, we would be overcritical.

my friend now has changed her attitude. she accepts her shortcomings but still keeps a positive outlook. she is even more active and doesn't allow the mistakes to hinder her pursuit of excellence. and i think that's the way we should be!that's all. thank you!

What a wonderful fruit the banana is, popular all over the world. Its three colors tell you how ripe it is. Green means go, as in go find another banana. Yellow means eat me. Brown means eat me but don’t bother chewing before you swallow. The only thing that would make a banana more user-friendly is if you could eat the peel. Plus, a banana is neat to eat. When you bite into it, you don’t have to worry about juice squirting all over yourself and your dinner neighbors . And it’s a silent food—you can chew it all you like without driving your neighbors crazy with crunching sounds . Finally, it’s easy to cut—you don’t need a steak knife. You can slice it with a fork or a spoon, if you like.

You’re never too young or too old to eat bananas. Babies eat mashed bananas before their teeth grow in. Great-great-grandparents eat mashed bananas after their teeth fall out.

The banana is versatile. You can fry it, bake it, mash it, or eat it raw. You can slice it and put it on your breakfast cereal. At lunchtime you can snack on a raw banana, or make a peanut butter and banana sandwich, or eat a bag of dried bananas. You can add a banana to your ice cream for dessert and call it a banana split. You can order a healthful banana smoothie at your local smoothie store. On weekends you can order a banana daiquiri at your local bar or restaurant.

Here in the US, we get most of our bananas from Ecuador and Costa Rica, although the fruit reportedly originated in Asia. Bananas give us lots of potassium and vitamins A and C, and hardly any sodium. The price of bananas hasn’t changed much over recent years—they’re still about 65 cents a pound, despite rising gas and labor prices. If that’s too expensive, you can still get three pounds for a buck at many dollar stores.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:

Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.

Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Diana Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.

To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.

my brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sisters bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package.

this, he said, is not a slip.

this is lingerie.

he discarded the tissue and handed me the slip.

it was exquisite, silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace.

the price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached.

jan bought this the first time we went to new york, at least 8 or 9 years ago.

she never wore it.

she was saving it for a special occasion.

well, i guess this is the occasion.

he took the slip from me and put it on the bed, with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician.

his hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me, dont ever save anything for a special occasion.

every day you re alive is a special occasion.

i remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when i helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death.

i thought about them on the plane returning to california from the midwestern town where my sisters family lives.

i thought about all the things that she hadnt seen or heard or done.

i thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.

im still thinking about his words, and theyve changed the weeds in the garden.

im spending more time with my family and friends and less time in committee meetings.

whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savour, not endure.

im trying to recognize these moment now and cherish them.

im not saving anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special.

event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom… i wear my good blazer to the market if i feel like it.

my theory is if i look prosperous, i can shell out $28.

49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing.

im not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party going friends.

someday and one of these days are losing their grip on my vocabulary.

if its worth seeing or hearing or doing, i want to see and hear and do it now.

im not sure what my sister wouldve done had she know that she wouldnt be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted.
